Jonathon Yates who represents the Oldham CAB approached Alan Keane (OCL) about staging an event that would bring the community of Oldham together and bring awareness to the community that the Citizens Advice Bureau is in fact a local charity needing your support to help all folk from our great town.
The decision to restage the Oldham half marathon was well received by the Oldham Council, NHS and One Futures group. The last time the marathon took place was in 2009, then called the Oldham Mayors Half marathon and had around 125 finishers. Alan was “Keane” to promote the race as a tough adventure and renaming the event “Milltown to Moors” and to paraphrase him “When runners stand at the start line, they can see the Saddleworth moors of Oldham ahead and can look forward to the climb to the top and back!”
The Milltown race Committee was formed
Alan Keane. Race Organiser OCL
Simon Lake. CAB & Parkrun
Mark Kelly. Parkrun
Sarah Hewitt. Oldham Town Centre Manager & Town Centre Partnership.
Gaynor Keane. Healthwatch Oldham
Tony Marlor. Former OHM organiser & Saddleworth Parish Council
The 2012 Oldham Half event was a tremendous success and since then Oldham Community Leisure has developed a full series of 3 races and the Milltown Triathlon.
A mention must go to the many friendly volunteers that contribute their time by marshalling at Milltown events, we could not do it without them!
