Start Time: 7.30am
Milltown’s most diverse challenge yet is introduced to Oldham on Sunday 26th April 2015 @ 7.30, with the launch of the eagerly awaited Milltown Sprint Triathlon, sponsored this year by the Citizens Advice Bureau.
The new event, hosted in the Saddleworth area will see participants carry out a 400 metre swim, a 20k bike ride and a 5k run.
Following the intense swim event hosted at Saddleworth Pool & Leisure Centre, entrants will be covering 20k of Saddleworth’s most challenging inclines on bike, traveling the scenic route from Uppermill to Diggle, Delph, Scouthead, Austerlands, Lees, Grotton and Grasscroft before returning to Uppermill.
Following this, the 5k run will challenge participants’ fitness as they head out down the Pennine Bridleway to Chew Valley Road in Greenfield, then turning and taking on the steepest part of the course via Kinders, Haw Clough and Knowl Top lanes under the iconic war memorial Obelisk at Pots and Pans. Tired athletes will then be returning to Saddleworth Pool & Leisure Centre via Church Road and the bridleway.
Not to be underestimated, you will earn your 2015 Milltown Tri shirt; this is a tough one!
When speaking about the Sprint Triathlon, Jonathan Yates from Pennine West Citizens Advice Bureau commented, “Oldham Citizens Advice is excited at the prospect of an Oldham Triathlon and wants to support the event and contribute to its success ensuring that it is the first of many.”
“There has been a Citizens Advice service in Oldham since 1939 making this year its 75th anniversary. Each year we help over 10,0000 Oldham residents by making sure they are receiving the financial support they are entitled to, enable them to deal with complex debt issues and maintain a roof over their head among many other types of enquiries. As a charity that relies on the people of Oldham as volunteers and for donations the Triathlon with help raise the public awareness of our charity status and hopefully inspire them to fundraise for us and give their time to work within our team.”
